| “ | My art is a journey into the layers of psyche which eludes easy definitions - into our emotional core, which still, like the bottom of an ocean, remains unexplored virgin territory. Since we stubbornly deny ourselves an access to these murky waters, they are a constant challenge. My attempts to capture the fleeting glimpses of our inner reality are never fully satisfying. They always provide more questions than answers, and excite my curiosity continuously. Digital photography as a medium gives a helpful tool in that quest. I use it rather like a magnifying glass than like a canvas on which a vision is to be superimposed. My staging efforts, such as props, are only meant to help the model shed the calcified outer shell. Once that is accomplished, I step back and hope for magic. I do not interrupt the process with painstaking technicalities, do not use studio lighting, and do not yet allow myself to be seduced by the possibilities of the digital aspect. I try not to manipulate my images beyond basic editing. Only occasionally I enhance the visual impact of what the camera has already registered. At this stage, my work can be compared to gathering data, and I am grateful for the immediacy and ease digital photography delivers. I am looking forward, however, to thoroughly exploring the medium in the future. |
